Biofach Congress Session "Enhancing integrity - global overview and solutions" to introduce Check Organic

The session will give an overview of and insight into various approaches tackling the problem of fraud. Gerald A. Herrmann, one of the pioneers of the organic movement and expert on supply chain integrity, will moderate the session. Gerald will start the session by introducing key indicators for integrity approaches and will evaluate the approaches using these indicators.

 

The following expert speakers will provide detailed information on systems for improving integrity in the organic food system.

Public approaches

§  USA: Wolf/DiMatteo & Associates, Ms. Katherine DiMatteo will introduce the USDA/NOP organic integrity database.

§  USA: OTA, Ms. Monique Marez will introduce the USDA system eTDE (Electronic Trade Document Exchange) currently implemented for non-organic products.

§  EU: EU Commission, DG Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Ivica Karas will introduce e-COI/TRACES, providing transaction certificates for imported certified organic products.

 

Private approaches

§  Switzerland: BioSuisse, Mr. Hans Ramseier will introduce the approach of the Swiss standard setter and certifier, BioSuisse, which enforces stricter import approval procedures than required by Swiss organic regulations.

§  Italy: FEDERBIO, Mr. Roberto Pinto will give an update on the Italian FEDERBIO Integrity Platform implemented in 2015, which is a private although enforced system for the Italian organic grain market.

§  Global: Check Organic, Mr. Frank Gerriets will introduce the approach of CHECK ORGANIC - a private, global initiative of Organic Services.
