Eurofins: non analytical and analytical tools need to be combined

Jörg Lickfett and Johannes Jaschik
Eurofins Food Testing Germany

Jörg studied agricultural economics and industrial engineering. With Eurofins since 2014 as Strategic Account Manager responsible for international projects with a focus on tea, spices and edible oils. Since 1/2020 additional responsibility for sales at Eurofins Global Control GmbH. Lecturing, consulting and sales experience in more than 50 countries with focus on Middle East and Asia. At the BIOFACH 2020 congress session "Fraud, gaps and loopholes: private and public counteractions and enforcement to complement regulations", Jörg - together with his colleague Johannes Jaschik - pointed out that for knowing your supply chain, non-analytical and analytical tools need to be combined.

According to Jörg, only 20% of the samples they receive from their customers come without any information about the sample's origin. At the same time, customers expect their laboratories more and more to be safety partner that - apart from analysing samples for pesticides etc - helps them develop a safety concept. In order to enable laboratories to meet these expectations it is crucial for the clients to know their supply chain very well, to carry out a thorough risk analysis and to share more information about their procurement activities. Johannes underlined this by giving an example of a multi-ingredient product that shows how little information one gets by only analysing the finished product, since so many things can go wrong in the earlier steps of the supply chain.
